Best MG Gunpla Kits

Master Grade kits are the hobbyist's flagship format — 1/100 scale, full inner frames, cockpit details, and builds that take a weekend. These are the kits that dominate display shelves and make people stop and stare.

Top MG picks

MG Sazabi Ver. Ka

The gold standard of Master Grade. Katoki's redesign of the Sazabi is massive — this kit comes out around 25cm — with a full inner frame, funnels that mount on the waist, and cockpit detail that rewards close inspection. It is the kit to own if you own one MG.

MG Nu Gundam Ver. Ka

The eternal rival pair at Master Grade. The fin funnels extend to make the kit almost as wide as it is tall. Demanding build but the payoff is unmatched. Often paired with the Sazabi for a diorama-style display.

MG Strike Freedom Gundam Full Burst Mode

The wingspan in full burst mode is extraordinary. Gold-frame inner frame parts, a display stand for the dragoons, and one of the most recognizable Seed designs. Bandai has released several versions — the Full Burst Mode is the definitive one.

MG Sinanju (Titan Ver.)

Deep red with gold trim, a full inner frame showing the UC design philosophy clearly. The Sinanju is one of the best-designed kits Bandai has ever done — the proportions, the horn, the backpack thrusters all come together perfectly.

MG Barbatos (IBO)

The Iron-Blooded Orphans aesthetic in MG form. Brutalist, aggressive, no beam weapons — just the mace. If you prefer your Gunpla gritty over elegant, this is the one.

Ver. Ka vs standard MG — what's the difference?

"Ver. Ka" (Katoki Hajime version) kits are a premium sub-line within MG:

  • More complex engineering and higher part count
  • Large water-slide decal sheets (often hundreds of markings)
  • ¥2,000–¥3,000 more expensive than the standard equivalent
  • Designed for builders who plan to detail their kits

For your first MG, a standard (non-Ver.Ka) is fine. Once you're comfortable, the Ver. Ka Sazabi or Nu are the kits most collectors consider the pinnacle.
